Vocational Case Management & Vocational Rehabilitation Consultancy

Beyond our formal assessments, we provide expert vocational case management and vocational rehabilitation consultancy. These services are often sought by instruct parties to provide specialised support throughout a client’s journey toward meaningful vocational activity. Spencer is instructed typically by solicitors, case managers and works on both joints and single instruction. Spencer is also instructed directly by clients and their families.

Return to Work Service

Our Looking for Work service supports people who want to look for alternative employment and face challenges to finding work, due to illness, injury or disability.

Our return to work service supports employees returning to work after an absence caused by illness or disability either in their substantive, or a redeployed, role. Research shows that the longer a worker is absent, the harder it is for them to return successfully.

Vocational Assessments

Our Vocational Assessments are designed for clients with catastrophic injuries who are not currently working and face significant challenges in re-entering the workforce. These assessments are among the most common referrals we receive.

This in-depth assessment evaluates a client’s vocational potential following serious illness or injury. We review their previous education, training, and work history alongside current physical, cognitive, and emotional ability and impairments including executive function and how it may affect a return to work.

The purpose of the assessment is to analyse an individual’s current level of function in relation to their education, training, and work experience. The final report provides a clear action plan with recommendations to support the client’s journey toward paid employment or other meaningful vocational activity.

Return to Work Assessments

For clients aiming to return to their pre-injury role, a Return to Work Assessment is a key part of their rehabilitation plan. This service evaluates the client’s physical and cognitive capabilities, identifies potential barriers, and recommends any necessary workplace accommodations, reasonable adjustments or modifications specific to their role. The final report provides the client and instructing party with the essential information needed to develop a safe and effective reintegration plan.

Transferable Skills Analysis Assessments

This assessment is a vital tool used when a client is unable to return to their former role and a comprehensive evaluation of their future job potential is required. The assessment provides an in-depth analysis of a clients’s interests, preferences, and skills to identify vocational strengths and transferable skills. Recommendations are made for suitable alternative job matches, considering local labour market information, training requirements, salary expectations, and reasonable adjustments. This process opens new vocational possibilities and forms the foundation for a sustainable return to work in a new job role.

Transition Assessments

Our Transition Assessments are designed for young people with catastrophic injuries who are moving from school into further education, training, or the workforce, with or without an Educational Healthcare Plan (EHCP). The assessment provides a detailed analysis of the individual’s suitability for a range of post 16 options. The final report includes recommendations for appropriate educational courses, training environments or potential employment pathways, while considering reasonable adjustments, funding requirements, and local labour market factors. This service supports both the young person and offers guidance to Case Managers and multidisciplinary teams (MDT) in helping the young person making informed decisions about their future. It is also suitable for young people who are not currently in education, employment, or training, offering guidance on alternative educational placements and pathways for those who are hard to place in mainstream education.
